Jules Agard (1905-1986)

Jules Agard was a French ceramist and painter born in Vallauris, widely regarded as one of the finest wheel-throwers of the town’s golden age. Trained at the Jérôme Massier workshop, he later joined the Madoura studio, where he became Pablo Picasso’s principal thrower for 22 years, skillfully translating the artist’s bold ideas into clay. After leaving Madoura in 1970, Agard devoted himself to his own production at La Poterie des Noisetiers, creating expressive vases, plates, and a distinctive bestiary. Alongside ceramics, he also pursued painting and exhibited regularly from the 1960s onward.
