Jeanne Pierlot (1917-1988) & Norbert Pierlot (1919-1979)

Jeanne and Norbert Pierlot established their ceramics workshop at Château de Ratilly, in the Puisaye region of France, in 1951, transforming it into a major centre for ceramic creation and knowledge-sharing. Their work combines pure, pared-back forms, functional stoneware and subtle glazes. From 1952 onwards, they welcomed numerous apprentices and ceramicists, including Jean Tessier and Éric Astoul, while Georges Jouve spent the summer of 1953 at the château. From 1975, Norbert Pierlot developed a more sculptural practice in heavily grogged stoneware.
